SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — While Salt Lake City’s vintage clothing scene has always been beloved by its residents, it’s recently caught national attention. Pop music star Olivia Rodrigo recently went public that her “favorite vintage store in the world” is located right here in Salt Lake City.
Far from being a collection of smelly old clothes shops, SLC vintage stores are a thriving community of retro clothing enthusiasts. Vendors and customers frequently host events outside of their stores such as the upcoming Vintage Market Days of Northern Utah being held at the state’s fairgrounds May 12-14. The past Vintage Market Days featured stalls from many popular Salt Lake consignment stores, including Decades Vintage Clothing, iconoCLAD and Blue Velvet Bunny.
Of all of SLC’s popular vintage clothing stores, however, only one was named specifically by fashion icon Olivia Rodrigo. In a post on his social media, Rodrigo said that Vantage in Salt Lake City is not just his favorite vintage shop in Utah, but in the whole world. She praised Vantage not only for its great retro ’90s finds, but also for its reasonable prices.
One of Vantage’s owners, Andrew Aldridge, said Rodrigo’s shoutout “was an honor”. “It was awesome,” said Aldridge, “We pride ourselves on finding the best vintage clothing in the country to sell locally in Salt Lake City.”
Fans of Olivia Rodrigo and the SLC vintage clothing scene are speculating on social media that she likely went to Vantage and other beloved SLC stores while filming in Utah for her recent documentary “Olivia Rodrigo: driving home 2 u (a SOUR film)” or “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” on Disney+.
Rodrigo is performing on April 9, 2022 at the UCCU Center in Orem. Whether she’ll star in something that was originally owned by one of her fans’ grandmothers and curated by the fantastic staff at Vintage remains to be seen.
