Harlem’s Closet arrives at Gervais Street, specializing in vintage clothing, sneakers | Business

Sneakerheads and nostalgic fashion lovers will have a new outlet to shop their favorite looks on August 14th.

Harlem’s Closet will open at 514 Gervais Street, located at the corner of Huger and Gervais streets, featuring sneakers, streetwear, vintage t-shirts, antique toys, trading cards and more.

Co-owner Kenneth Joyner, Jr. and two of his best friends envisioned a store years ago in college and were finally able to make it a reality.

“Basically the store is me and two of my best friends,” Joyner said. “We’re all sneaker collectors and I save a lot of money. Ever since I was in college, I said I wanted to open a buy, sell, and swap shop.”

The store’s name comes from Joyner’s desire to name his first son Harlem when he becomes a father one day.

Joyner expressed his excitement for the store’s opening, explaining the experience he and his co-owners want to bring to customers. “We want it to look like a real closet when people walk into the store,” he said. “We want to have a throwback nostalgia.”

During the grand opening celebration on August 14, the store will feature live music, food and gifts for customers, including sneakers and surprise items.

“We’re all excited, our family members are excited,” Joyner said. “We also received a lot of support on social media.”
